Flora! Illuminated… Day 11

Koelreuteria paniculata

Koelreuteria paniculata

Ruth Dreier. Golden-rain tree - Koelreuteria paniculata, 2000. Transparent watercolor and graphite.

One distant horse chestnut relation, Koelreteuria paniculata (the ‘golden-rain tree’) comes from China. Its flowers are similar, but hang down. Its bladder-fruit is very different. A wide small tree with beautiful feathery leaves and good autumn color.

–Hugh Johnson in
The International Book of Trees

The golden-rain tree is one of 20 summer flowering trees recommended for planting by The Morton Arboretum.  View one live on The Arboretum’s grounds with the help of our Plant Collections Catalog and plant collections map.
