Flora! Illuminated… Day 14

Narcissus

Matthaeus Merian. Narcissus varieties, from Viridarium reformatum… by D. Mich. Bernh. Valentini, 1719. Hand-colored line engraving.

I wander’d lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

–William Wordsworth

Narcissus is just one of many spring blooming bulbs that are enjoyed by young and old alike. The Bulb Project, sponsored by the International Flower Bulb Centre,  features “creative projects to help educators share the joys of growing flower bulbs with children and youth, and use bulbs to help teach science, art, history and other subjects.”
